Laser Skin Rejuvenation FAQs

Profile is known as an innovative combination of two laser technologies. It allows your provider to precisely vary the depth and the effect of your laser treatment.

Laser skin resurfacing uses a technique that directs short, concentrated pulsating lasers at irregular skin, removing the skin layer by layer.

There are a number of conditions that can be treated and these should be discussed with your doctor. Some of the conditions include: wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, hypertrophic scars and more.

The Profile laser will remove thin layers of your skin’s surface. This will allow new, younger looking skin to grow. The lasers are meant to soften wrinkles and other skin conditions and make them less noticeable.

While popular treated skin areas include the face, neck, chest and hands, all skin areas can be treated. Treatment areas should be discussed with your doctor before being treated.

Everyone is different and so is their skin and needs, so your actual healing time will depend on the exact treatment you receive. You may experience some redness that will last for several weeks.

After treatment you might experience some redness and slight swelling in the area that has been treated. This can subside within a few hours. However, you skin will most likely have a pink or red color that will disappear over time. You will need to remember to avoid direct exposure to the sun and use a sunblock when going outdoors.

Your discomfort level will depend on you. Everyone is different and handles the treatment differently. You can discuss anesthesia options with your doctor that can help manage any discomfort.

If you follow the aftercare instructions provided by your doctor, you should be able to reduce the risk of infection.

If necessary, your doctor will provide you with anesthesia. Your eyes will be covered with safety glasses to protect them from the lasers light. The laser beam will then be provided through a computer controlled device. This will scan the area of skin that is being treated and your will hear a snapping sound as the laser removes the outer layer of skin. The procedure will take a few minutes up to 30 minutes depending on the size of the area.

Your doctor will provide you with proper aftercare instructions during your visit. This will help minimize the risk of infection and ensure that your skin heals properly. It’s important to remember to protect your skin from sun exposure even after your skin has healed.

Everyone’s skin is different and will heal differently. Most patients who have a light resurfacing procedure can heal in less than a week and patients who have deeper procedures will heal within a couple of weeks. Most patients experience redness that will fade over a period of time. Your doctor will review all of the risks and side effects that may occur.

Patients will be given a topical or local anesthetic prior to the procedure. After the procedure, you may feel like you have a bad sunburn. Cold compresses can help relieve any discomfort.

It may take several weeks for your skin to heal and you may not see the final results until then. Over the next several months as your skin heals, new collagen will regenerate and fill in fine lines and wrinkles.
