IPL Skin Rejuvenation

FountainGrove MedSpa provides IPL Skin Rejuvenation procedures in Santa Rosa.

Intense Pulsed Light Skin Rejuvenation, often shortened to IPL Skin Rejuvenation or Photorejuvenation is a skin rejuvenation technique that employs state-of-the art technology to rejuvenate your skin.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation uses laser-like technology to dramatically improve visible signs of chronic exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Freckles, fine lines and wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin tone, redness, and enlarged pores can all be minimized by this technique.

The Benefits of IPL include:

  • Fading brown spots
  • Lessening of redness on skin
  • Improvement to skin tone and texture
  • Effectively treats the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands

How the Treatment Works

Unlike lasers, an IPL device has the ability to send out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. This means it can treat a range of skin conditions at once.

The device uses light to target a certain color in your skin. Then, when the skin is heated, your body gets rid of the unwanted cells, which can dramatically improve the look and feel of your skin.

After IPL, you may look younger because your skin tone is more even. This is an outpatient procedure most people recover very quickly from since the light only affects the tissue in question.

Who Should Seek Treatment?

This procedure works works best if you have pale or light brown skin. Talk to your dermatologist if you want to lessen or get rid of:

  • Acne
  • Birthmarks
  • Stretch marks
  • Liver or age spots
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Brown spots, also called liver or age spots
  • Dark spots from hormonal changes
  • Discolored skin
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Redness from rosacea
  • Scars
  • Spider veins
  • Unwanted hair

IPL Skin Rejuvenation FAQ

Prior to treatment, we can provide a consultation and patch test that will ensure whether the treatment is the right route for you. Here at FountainGrove MedSpa, we want you to be completely confident in your treatment plan.

As previously stated, the ideal candidate for IPL hair removal has light skin and dark hair, but this doesn’t automatically exclude anyone with darker skin or lighter hair. During the consultation we will determine your skin type based on the Fitzpatrick skin type scale and develop a plan specific to your skin type and hair color.

A patch test can be done at our clinic, please contact us for more information.

What body areas can be treated?

Almost any area of the body can be treated and the most common are the legs, back, neck, upper lip, chin, underarms, stomach, bikini line, face, and chest.

What does the treatment feel like?

The treatment is low on the pain scale. You may feel a slight tingling or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band on your skin, but most people tolerate the procedure very well. Of course, some areas of the body are more sensitive than others and you may choose to have a topical anesthetic applied to increase comfort during the procedure.

How long do the treatments take?

For smaller areas, the treatment can be relatively short; within 15-20 minutes. Larger areas, such as the back or legs, may require up to an hour. Prior to starting the treatment, you will be given a time estimate.

After treatments, what precautions should I take?

After IPL treatment, reduce sun exposure by applying sun block; SPF 30 or above. In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleaners as it may damage your skin. You also shouldn’t use Vitamin A or glycolic acid products on the area for approximately 48 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will vary from person to person and the treatment area.

Most people need an average of eight to ten sessions, especially when treating the bikini line or under arm area. But you will see significant results after just one IPL treatment.

I have polycystic ovaries, can IPL treat my facial hair?

Hirsutism—excessive hair growth on the face and body—is an unwanted side effect of Polycystic ovaries (PCOS). Yes, IPL can treat facial hair that is caused by this condition. Tell us you have polycystic ovaries (PCOS) prior to treatment. More information will be provided during our consultation.
